Se caracterizaron 249 fincas ganaderas en la Amazonía Colombiana de acuerdo a su tamaño: un grupo mayoritario caracterizado por fincas menores de 100 ha un segundo grupo con fincas entre 101 y 500 ha y finalmente un reducido grupo de fincas grandes mayores de 500 ha. Se realizaron talleres participativos con los productores para discutir alternativas de producción sostenibles, con base en cercas vivas, huertos caseros, sistemas silvopastoriles, diversificación de los sistemas de producción (p.ej., piscicultura), bancos de proteína y de energía. Hubo una clara relación entre el interés en las diferentes alternativas y el tamaño de la finca. Using size as a criterion, 249 cattle farms of the Columbian Amazon were characterized. In the largest group, farms were less than 100 ha, in the second group between 101 to 500 ha and finally there was a reduced group of larger farms of more than 500 ha. Participatory workshops were carried out with producers to discuss sustainable production alternatives based on: live fences, home gardens, silvopastoral systems, diversification of production systems (p. ej., fish farming), protein and energy banks.
