El objetivo general de la investigación fue evaluar cómo los eventos climáticos extremos de precipitación inciden en la migración interna en Guatemala. El enfoque del trabajo que se utilizó fue de tipo cualitativo y cuantitativo. El proceso se orientó a indagar sobre dos aspectos, el primero, profundiza los canales y variables que inciden en la migración interna en Guatemala ante eventos climáticos extremos. El segundo aspecto, explica los efectos de los eventos climáticos extremos (ECE) en la migración interna en Guatemala entre 1997 y 2002. Los resultados encontrados indican que la sequía en el municipio de origen reduce significativamente, en promedio, la migración. Mientras que los eventos climáticos extremos de lluvia incrementan significativamente, en promedio, la migración. This study was conducted in the Republic of Guatemala. The overall objective of the research was to assess how ECE affect internal migration in Guatemalan. Two approaches were used in this study: the qualitative approach and the quantitative approach. The process intended to investigate two aspects. The first of these was to understand the channels and the variables that affect internal migration in Guatemala in the presence of ECEs The second aspect explains the effects of ECE in internal migration in Guatemala between 1997 and 2002.
