Sc) -- CATIE, Turrilba (Costa Rica), 2011 La investigación se desarrolló en la cuenca del río Jequetepeque, ubicada en la costa y sierra Norte del Perú. Con fines de regulación hídrica se construyó el embalse Gallito Ciego quien permite la irrigación de 32.000 hectáreas y la generación eléctrica de 38,15 MW a favor de la población local. Con la finalidad de establecer un mecanismo de pago por servicios ecosistémicos se valoró económicamente el efecto, en términos de generación de electricidad y actividad agrícola la degradación del servicio ecosistémico en zonas donde el conflicto de uso del suelo genera sedimentos al embalse Gallito Ciego. EI resultado del escenario de pérdidas económicas agrícolas y energéticas justifica realizar la implementacion del mecanismo de pago por servicios ecosistémicos en los tres niveles de análisis. Es conveniente que los actores de la infraestructura energética aporten una parte de sus beneficios económicos para disminuir la degradación del servicio ecosistémico hídrico. The research was conducted in Jequetepeque River Basin, located on the north coast and highlands of Peru.
