NICARAGUA HONDURAS AGROECOSISTEMAS POBLACION RURAL DIVERSIFICACION Tesis (M. Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2011 most of them lower than 3.5 ha the main crops are corn, beans and coffee. Related to the directive board, it was found a dependence on the project and the existence of some weaknesses in the groups because of their low size and the absence of legal issues. Families consider that methodology implemented have been easy to understand however, it has shown some weaknesses in the applicability of some relevant topics. For this reason, with the contribution of families and organizations the processes were evaluated and opportunities for improvement are proposed. El Estudio se realizó en el Municipio de Jalapa (Nicaragua) y en El Paraíso (Honduras), con las familias diversificando los medios de vida del Proyecto Innovación café en Cadenas de Valor Sostenibles del Programa Agroambiental Mesoamericano-CATIE. En relación a los agroecosistemas se identificó que las familias cuentan con agroecosistemas trabajados bajo prácticas tradicionales en su mayoría con áreas menores a 3.5 ha. Los principales cultivos son maíz, frijol y café: los primeros importantes en la dieta alimenticia y el tercero en la generación de ingresos. En cuanto a la toma de decisiones de las juntas directivas se encontró una dependencia del proyecto y que existen algunas debilidades en los grupos por ser pequeños y sin personería jurídica. Respecto a la metodología implementada las familias consideran que ha sido de fácil comprensión, sin embargo ésta ha mostrado algunas debilidades en la aplicabilidad de algunos temas relevantes, por lo que con el aporte de las familias y organizaciones se valoró los procesos y se plantean oportunidades de mejora.
