Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2007 El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar los sellos Orgánico, Comercio Justo, Rainforest Alliance, Utz Certified y C.A.F.E. Practices en Costa Rica, así como determinar el efecto de la certificación sobre el manejo del café y el ambiente. El estudio se realizó en 106 fincas de café en diferentes regiones de Costa Rica. Los resultados de la caracterización de los diferentes sellos demostraron una mayor relación porcentual de superficie certificada en Comercio Justo (28 por ciento) y C.A.F.E. Practices (17 por ciento). Los sellos Utz Certified, Rainforest Alliance y Orgánico tuvieron una menor superficie certificada. Dentro de las prácticas de manejo de la finca, fue la reducción en la aplicación de herbicidas la que más correlacionó con la certificación. The principal objective of this study was to characterize the organic, fair trade, Rainforest Alliance, Utz Certified and C.A.F.E practices certification, and to determinate the certification impact over the coffee farming practices and the environment. The research study was done in 106 coffee farMON in all Costa Rica coffee regions. In Costa Rica most of the certified coffee areas are under Fair Trade (28 percent) and C.A.F.E Practices (17 percent). The Utz Certified, Rainforest Alliance and organic certifications had less certified area.
