Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2008 En este estudio se evaluó el potencial de productividad de carne ha-1 año-1 de pasturas mejoradas (B. brizantha) y naturalizadas (H. rufa) en diferentes niveles de degradación en fincas ganaderas en Esparza, Costa Rica. Se concluye que bajo las condiciones de las pasturas naturalizadas en Esparza, una alimentación basada exclusivamente en estas pasturas no es una actividad económicamente rentable. Se debe considerar la renovación de pasturas naturalizadas, continuar con el cambio a mejoradas y estrategias de suplementación en época seca ya que se aumenta la rentabilidad de los sistemas de engorde en Esparza. The study evaluated the meat productivity potential of improved pastures (B. brizantha) and natural pastures (H. rufa) with different levels of degradation in cattle farMON in Esparza, Costa Rica. Considering the results of this study, it has been concluded that a feeding strategy which is solely based on natural pastures is financially not viable.
