Es el producto de la investigación realizada desde 1980 por el CATIE y las instituciones forestales nacionales de la región centroamericana, durante el desarrollo de los Proyectos Leña y Fuentes Alternas de Energía (LEÑA) y Cultivo de Arboles de Uso Múltiple (MADELEÑA).
