Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2004 157 páginas 34 ilus. 42 tab Referencias 147-154 El presente trabajo sobre la evaluación de tierras para la implementación de un sistema de Ganadería semiestabulado en la subcuenca del río Guayabo, pretende como objetivo específico establecer el potencial de Producción de Ganadería semiestabulada en las tierras en esa zona por medio de la identificación de las características de unidades cartográficas asociadas a la Producción ganadera, estableciendo los requisitos de uso de la tierra de los sistemas de Producción relacionada con Producción ganadera y conociendo la aptitud física y económica de las tierras de la subcuenca del río Guayabo. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la subcuenca del río Guayabo posee tierras con potencial para el establecimiento de Ganadería semiestabulada demostrando aptitud física y económica para la mayoría de los cultivos, con excepción de las unidades de mapeo que se encuentran en la parte más alta de la subcuenca (unidades de mapeo 1 y 2). Son los pastos de corte Sorgo Forrajero (Sorghum alnum) y King Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) los que presentan mayor alta aptitud física en las tierras que se encuentran en la parte media alta a la baja de la subcuenca. Las características más variables dentro de la zona y que limitan más la aptitud de las tierras a los cultivos son la elevación y la temperatura. This is a study on land evaluation prior to the implementation of a partially- stabled cattle breeding system in the Guayabo watershed. The study's goal is to determine the cattle production potential in the area by identifying the features of cartographic units related to cattle breeding, by establishing the requirements for the use of the land for purposes of cattle breeding, and by studying the physical and economic aptitude of the land at the Guayabo watershed. The results show that the Guayabo watershed has land with potential for the establishment of partially stabled cattle breeding because it shows physical and economic aptitude for most of the cultivations, except for the cartographic units located in the highest parts of the watershed (mapping units 1 and 2). Forage sorghum (Sorghum alnum) and King Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) are the cultivations with the best physical aptitude for mid-height to low-height lands.
