The selection method is not recommendable for shade intolerant species such as pines because it favors oak development. La finalidad de este estudio fue establecer los efectos de la aplicación de dos métodos de regeneración (método de árboles padre y método de selección) en la estructura, diversidad y composición del bosque de pino-encino de la comunidad de Ixtlán de Juárez en el Estado de Oaxaca, México. Además de determinar la relación que existe entre la abundancia de la regeneración de pinos y encinos con las condiciones del sitio. De los métodos de regeneración evaluados, el método de árboles padre en conjunto con la aplicación de quemas prescritas produjeron mejores resultados en el desarrollo y establecimiento de los pinos, así como en el control de los encinos. El método de selección es poco recomendable para las especies intolerantes a la sombra, como los pinos, ya que favorece el desarrollo de los encinos. The objective of this study was to establish the effects on the application of two regeneration methods (parent tree and selection methods) on the structure, diversity and composition of a pine-oak forest in the community of Ixtlán de Juárez, Oaxaca State, México. In addition, the relationship between the abundance of pine and oak regeneration with site conditions was also determined.
