Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2005 El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar el rol de la certificación forestal para los grupos de aserrío en el Departamento de Atlántida (Honduras) e identificar oportunidades para una mejor inserción del proceso de la certificación forestal en los medios de vida de sus integrantes. Los resultados muestran que la certificación, a lo largo de siete años, han rendido algunos efectos sobre los medios de vida de los hogares, aunque no ha cumplido, hasta ahora, con la expectativa de los mismos productores de aumentar la rentabilidad del manejo forestal. Además ha sido un proceso exógeno a los grupos de aserrío y subsidiado por agencias internacionales. The main objective of the present study was to determine the role that forest certification has played on the pit sawing groups of the Atlantida Department (Honduras) and to identify opportunities for a better insertion of the forest certification process within the livelihoods of its members. Results show that after seven years of existence, certification has had some effects on the household livelihoods, but it has not so far fully accomplished the producers" expectation to increase forest management profitability.
