La metodología se fundamenta en el análisis cuantitativo de datos estadísticos internacionales, la revisión comparativa de cadenas de suministro agroalimentarias y la evaluación de estudios de caso sectoriales. Los resultados evidencian que aproximadamente un tercio de la producción mundial de alimentos se pierde o desperdicia a lo largo de la cadena, generando efectos negativos en la eficiencia de los recursos naturales, la rentabilidad económica y la disponibilidad alimentaria.
