Description
Summary:In general the plants grown in soil plots treated with chloropicrin were more thrifty than plants grown in other treatments. Plants grown in soil pre-treated with chloropicrin retained their foliage better than those of any other treatment. In two experiments the plants grown in soil fumigated with chloropicrin were significantly larger at planting time than plants grown in check plots or given other treatments and were considered more suitable for transplanting to the field. Plants grown in plots treated with chloropicrin showed greater freedom from disease than plants grown in untreated soil or soil treated with other chemicals. It is suggested that chloropicrin is worthy of further trial in this and other localities for control of certain soil-borne diseases in cinchona nurserydeds. Diseases were more severe in wet seasons than dry.
