Description
Summary:In all our experiment we used G. globosa as a local lesion host to evaluate the effectiveness of certain chemicals as cutting-knife disinfectants and as seed-piece protectants against potato virus X. Mercuric-bichloride, heliogen, bentonite clay, ethyl alcohol, sodium carbonate, trisodium phosphate, and calcium hydroxide, were found to be very effective as inhibitors of potato virus X. Bentonite clay and calcium hydroxide when used as a dust were shown to be good seed-piece protectants to prevent the possible spread of virus X from one tube to the next.
