description The work described is a development from results obtained with a sterile bar surrounding a mature seedling tree of Hevea brasiliensis tapped on a shortened balf-spiral cut. Attention is paid to the duration of latex flow, its volume, diy rubber content, and the degree of viable bacterial contamination. Observations are extended to three unselected seedlings injected with a variety of antibiotics and dressed with an alkaline bactericidal detergent. Yield increases have been recorded, and a brief description of each hee is given, along with the timing of injections. Particular attention is paid to a tree showing symptoms of brown bast. Twenty unselected seedlings (with twenty control hees) were then heated with raseline green, an antibiotic-sulfonamide mixture based on neomycin and chlorophenicol. Yield increases were recorded An experiment on AVROS 50 buddings at various planting densities is used to compare Vaseline green, raseline green + 0.50% 2,4,5-1, three commercial bormone preparations, and 2,4,5-7 plus all active components of Vaseline green. Results are discussed. The success of the raseline green preparations in the AVROS 50 experiment is compared with a small response to Vaseline green and a good response to 2,4,5-T in an experiment using Ijir i buddings. A small experiment on clonal seedlings shows a beneficial effect of aqueous bactericidal dressing on yield, following wetting with raseline green and Vaseline green + 0.5% or 0.3% 2,4,5-T An experiment on a commercial estate using a daily, attenuated, full-spill tapping method is described. Vaseline green 2,4,5-T and Vaseline green +0.5% 2,4,5-T are compared. Yield increases are obtained in all treatments. of a concept of immunity. Finally, an appraisal of the effects of antibiotics on yield is made in terms.
