Description
Summary:Samples from a dry tropical forest close to the Ucayali river, Perú, of two Peruvian woods, Ceiba pentandra Land Guarea trichiliaides L., were studied at the Wood Technology Laboratory, Universidad de los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela. Both their anatomical struc ture and their physical-mechanical properties were deter-mined Results indicate that Ceiba has long fibers, thick walls and lumens of relatively wide diameter The basic tissue if formed by small elements (parenchymatic and segments of vessels) Ceiba wood can be used in the manufacture of pulp and paper, as well as for packing crates, baskets, toys and light construction, after dried in a kiln Guarea is classified as a medium hard wood.
