Description
Summary:A survey is made of the cotton diseases in Latin America. Thirty one micro- organisms, including fungi, bacteria, nematodes and viruses have been reported in the literature. Of these, 11 are of economic importance and are treated separately. Research in Latin America has been done mainly on determining the causal agents of diseases. Peru, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil are reported to have made most research on control and breeding of resistant material. The author reports also much work carried out by her on the main cotton diseases in Peru. Finally, she recommends studies on the economic losses of diseases in each country; closer collaboration between plant breeders and plant pathologists; and the planning out of uniform experiments in the whole cotton producing area of Latin America
