Description
Summary:The free amino acid content of caryopses of Dactylis glomerata were studied as a function of the endogenous rhythm of germination. A great variation in the monthly content of the total free amino acids was found, but there was no relation between the concentration and the germinative capacity. There was an increase in the percentage of aspartic acid plus serine, and glutamic acid plus threonine, in the samples stored at both 5º and 25°C when germination was least (February). The per centage of methionine plus valine increased only in samples stored at 5°C. As germination capacity increased, the percentage of these amino acid pairs decreased. In samples stored at 5°C, the following amino acids decreased in February: lysine plus histidine, alanine, arginine and tyrosine, but increased beginning in March.
