| Sumario: | A disease characterized by a typical mottling of the leaves and flower stalks, and opaque frost-like streaks and blotches of the flowers of Amaryllis in California proved to be caused by Amaryllis Mosaic Virus (AnMV), as determined by host range, physical properties, and morphology. The virus is easily transmitted mechanically by crude sap inoculation as well as by partially purified virus. The virus was partially purified by rate zonal density-gradient-centrifugation and there were found two kind of particles: sinuous rods 25 mμ (milimicrons) wide and between 630-1420 mμ long, and the rigid rods 25 mμ wide and between 60–630 mμ long
