description The influence of TIBA & LAA on nutrient utilization by coffee and cocoa seedlings grown in nutrient solution was investigated under different conditions, and the following findings were found: 1) Pretreatment of normal or clovotic (hyogen-deficient) coffee plants with TIBA applied to the roots or foliage had a stimulating effect on the upward movement of nutrient absorbed by the roots. This effect was more pronounced in clovotic plants than in green plants. 2) When the TIBA pretreatment was applied simultaneously, it inhibited the upward movement of nutrient more intensely in clovotic plants than in green plants. 3) In general, foliar application of TIBA was more effective than root treatment, suggesting that this substance may affect the plant's transpiration rate 4) When comparing the effects of the simultaneous application of TIBA and IAA on iron utilization by cacao seedlings, it was noted that the former also interfered with the upward movement of the nutrient, especially in clovotic plants. 5) Regarding the effect of both growth-regulating substances on iron accumulation by the roots, it appears that auxin had a stimulating action that was not matched by TIBA, except partially when it was applied to the foliage at the same time that the nutrient was added to the root medium.
