| Sumario: | The present study was carried out with two soils profiles from volcanic ashes, both located in the Municipality of Pasto, Nariño, Colombia. One shows more undeveloped morphological features (Prophile 1).
The following physical properties, with the usual methods, were determined; Texture, using pipette and Bouyoucos methods with 3 modifications; Bulk density; paraffin and field method with a graduated cylinder; Particle density; pycnometer, glass flask with water and glass flask with kerosene; Field capacity: ⅓ at., soil columns, by means of formula from soil columns and relation with equivalent moisture.
According to statistical analysis and easiness of procedure, the following methods are recommended: for texture, profile 1, Bouyoucos No 3 and anyone for profile 2; for bulk density: profile 1, field method and both for profile 2; for particle density: profile 1, blass flask with kerosene and for profile 2, all employed methods; for field capacity; soil columns.
