Summary:A serious mosaic disease of peppers in Cochabamba, Bolivia is reported. The disease is characterized by a systemic mottling and wrinkling of the leaves, stuntiness of the plant and malformation of the fruit. This disease proved to be caused by a virus, as determined by host range and physical properties. The virus is transmitted mechanically by crude sap inoculation. Based on the results obtained are arrived at the tentative conclusion, that the virus harboured by plants of Capsicum frutescens var. grossum is a strain of cucumber mosaic virus.
