Sumario:Add it up Basic wood density was determined in samples taken from seven to eight year old Swietenia macrophylla trees representing twelve progenies of heavy and light parent trees from Mexico and Central America. No relationship was found between the density of the progenies and that of the parent trees. Furthermore, no obvious relationships of densities to tree characteristics were found in four plantations in Puerto Rico. Nor was there any relationship of densities to tree diameter at breast level. However, very significant differences in density were found among the progenies.
