The study is based on measurements of 1012 trees with a dbh of more than 20 cm, distributed over 123 plots, 10 x 50 m in size.
It was estimated that 2.8 per cent of the total or 5.2 per cent of the commercial volume of the forest is affected by buttresses. Under prevailing loggong practices in tropical forests this volume is not being harvested.
Bark volume in this forest amounted to 11.83 per cent of the commercial volume. With increasing tree diameters the bark volume decreases in relation to the commercial volume |
