| Summary: | In 1949, the Department of Forest Sciences of the Tropical Agricultural Research and Training Center (CATIE) in Turialba, Costa Rica, established experimental plantations of some valuable forest tree species in the "Premontane Wet Forest" life zone of Holdridge's ecological life zone system. This paper deals with observations on one of these species, Amyris barbata Lundell. Climatic and edaphic factors related to some measurable variables are discussed.
Tree variables studied include dbh, total and commercial heights, crown diameter, and bark thickness. Site factors measured include altitude, precipitation, average temperature, and soil capacity for plant production.
The study analyzes the relationships between dbh and total height, commercial height, crown diameter, and dbh inside bark. Additional factors studied included commercial volume with bark (m²), percentage of bank volume, plant mortality, mean annual growth, and growth rings.
