Samples were taken at two distances af the sides from the center of the row. Maximum penetration was observed between 30 and 50 cm depth. Maximun concentration at the sides was localized between 0 aud 35 cm from the center of the row. If was determined that 87 and 85 per cent of root weight was in the first 30 cm of the soil profile. Sugar cane was planted at the bottom of the furrou, a system which increases me trend to the fall down of the plant which in turn stimulates new groth.
