Sumario: | A comparison study was made between two kinds of furrow irrigation with short furrows One consisted of the application of constant flow on the furrow, by means of siphons, for R values of 0.26, 1.0, and 2.0. The other was characterized by a semi-automatic reduction of the initial flow at the end of the advanced tune, utilizing "spites" to reduce the flow to half, for R equal to 1.0. It was observed that percolation losses tended to decrease whereas efficiencies of application and distribution increased, together with runoff losses, for the case of constant flow, when the value of R went up. When reduction of flow occurred runoff losses were reduced to half, for R equal to 1.0. Additional observations were made regarding the suitability of empirical equations to estimate runoff; a good correlation was found.
