Reimpresión no. 149 (IICA) Después de discutir parte de la literatura existente sobre cultivos mixtos en los trópicos, los autores describen un experimento establecido en 1950 cerca de Turrialba (Costa Rica), en el que Hevea (hule o caucho) sola, se compara con siembras de Hevea + cacao y café. Entre noviembre de 1958 y diciembre de 1959, Hevea cultivada sola, produjo 1.310 kg de hule por hectárea provenientes de 511 árboles (2.56 kg/árbol); el caucho sembrado en combinación con cacao produjo 700 kg/ha, de 358 árboles (1.95 kg/árbol). El cacao de la plantación mixta produjo, en el mismo período, 950 kg/ha de almendras secas, provenientes de 753 árboles (1.26 kg/árbol).
