Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), Con el propósito de evaluar la disponibilidad, la calidad, el efecto de Leucaena leucocephala en la ganancia de peso en terneros en lactancia y destetados y la rentabilidad de los sistemas silvopastoriles, se desarrollaron dos experimentos. En el primer experimento se comparó la ganancia de peso de terneros destetados en un sistema silvopastoril (Brachiaria brizantha en asocio con Leucaena leucocephala) versus terneros en un sistema tradicional (Brachiaria brizantha en monocultivo + Pollinaza) se realizó un experimento donde se comparo el efecto de la presencia de Leucaena en potreros de Brachiaria sobre la ganancia de peso comparado al sistema tradicional. Con respecto a lo anterior se llega a la conclusión que el uso de Leucaena como suplemento para incrementar la ganancia de peso en terneros en lactancia y así destetar terneros de un peso mayor no es una opción viable, pues como se pudo observar los terneros que fueron suplementados con Leucaena en vez de aumentar la ganancia de peso tuvieron una perdida en el peso. With the purpose of evaluating the availability, the quality, the effect of Leucaena leucocephala in the gain of the weigh in calves in nursing and weaned and the profitability of the silvopastoril systeMON, two experiments were developed. In the first experiment the gain of the weigh in calves weaned in a silvopastoril systeMON (Brachiaria brizantha associate with Leucaena leucocephala) versus calves weaned in a traditional systeMON (Brachiaria brizantha in monoculture more Pollinaza).
