Bolivia tiene más del 54% de su territorio cubierto por bosques. A partir de 1996, con la promulga ción de una nueva ley forestal, el sector forestal boliviano sufrió un cambio profundo. Estos cam bios son visibles en el hecho de que el manejo practicado en 25% del área bajo manejo forestal ha recibido el certificado de buen manejo del FSC. En este artículo se presenta el marco legal y algunos antecedentes sobre el manejo forestal, así como los factores que han contribuido a su imple mentación. Además, se describen brevemente las experiencias en manejo forestal y se identifican los principales vacíos y necesidades de investigación. Bolivia has more than 54 % of its territory covered by forest. Since the implementation of a new forestry law in 1996, the Bolivian forestry sector has undergone serius changes. Presently, over 25% of the area under forest management has received the FSC certifica tion. This article discusses the legal framework and some past efforts for forest management are firstly presented, as well as the factors that have contrib uted to its implementation.
