El esfuerzo realizado durante Ia obtención de una nueva variedad de algodón puede perderse a menos que se tomen las precauciones para conservar Ia pureza genética del gerotipo mejorado. La pequeña cantidad de semilla producida por el fitogenetista constituye Ia base para alcanzar los volúmenes requeridos para las áreas comerciales.
