| Sumario: | Sweet potato (Ipomea batatas (L.) Lam.) is an important crop worldwide which interest is growing due to
its high nutritional value and potential as a food source in areas with limited resources.
“Blanco” type sweet potato is a traditional variety that is commonly grown in Valencia, Spain. This
landrace has a distinctive white flesh and is known for its sweet flavor and soft texture, being an
important part of the local cuisine. However, the feasibility of cultivating “Blanco” sweet potato crop is
at risk of being compromised. Due to its vegetative propagation over generations, these plants suffer
from the accumulation of viral diseases, leading to reduced tuber yield drastically, forcing farmers to
switch to other foreign varieties.
