description This chapter provides an overview of the use of computer vision in agriculture, summarizing the development and current state of this technology in both the field and postharvest. The objective is to present the evolution of this technology, the most used techniques, the types of sensors, and the main tasks that can be automated. It outlines the components of computer vision systems, reviews standard image processing methods, and discusses the pros and cons of the technologies used. Two examples show how computer vision is used to automate agriculture, including field monitoring with agricultural robots and product inspection after harvest. Finally, the future possibilities of optical technology in agriculture are explored.
