The neotype of Trichachne sacchariflora Nees is herein designated.
Complete illustrations of Digitaria eggersii, D. hitchcockii, and D. patens are provided. The phylogenetic placement of the Australian species D. brownii differed among trees resulting from different data sets, thus it is provisionally not included in D. sect. Trichachne in spite of its morphological similarity. Furthermore, Megaloprotachne albescens is formally transferred to Digitaria, as Digitaria albescens. |

El presente estudio provee evidencia para la delimitación taxonómica de Digitaria sect. Trichachne sobre la base de caracteres morfológicos (micro y macromorfológicos) y datos moleculares. Se realizó un análisis filogenético usando 121 caracteres morfológicos y secuencias de ITS en 22 especies y una variedad de Digitaria y tres taxones externos. En todas las topologías (morfológica, molecular y combinada) Digitaria sect. Trichophorae no es monofilética y está anidada en D. sect. Trichachne. Digitaria sect. Trichophorae es por lo tanto sinonimizada bajo D. sect. Trichachne y la circunscripción de este último taxon es enmendada. Los caracteres morfológicos diagnósticos, relacionados con la estructura de las espiguillas, son descriptos y documentados con MEB. Se provee una clave para la identificación de los taxones pertenecientes a D. sect. Trichachne, así como una sinopsis que incluye sinonimia, iconografía, distribución geográfica y ecología. El neotipo de Trichachne sacchariflora Nees es designado aquí. Se presentan ilustraciones completas de Digitaria eggersii, D. hitchcockii y D. patens. La posición filogenética de la especie australiana D. brownii difirió entre árboles resultantes de diferentes conjuntos de datos; por esta razón, provisionalmente no es incluida en D. sect. Trichachne a pesar de su similitud morfológica. Además, Megaloprotachne albescens es formalmente transferida a Digitaria, como Digitaria albescens.
