Sumario:Substrate crop as a system for soilless strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) production is recognized as an efficient technology implemented in developed countries. In Argentina, its adoption is still in its early stages, with little knowledge about the sanitary aspects. The objective of this work was to characterize pests and natural enemies affecting substrate strawberry cultivation and phytosanitary management, compared to other two production systems: open-field conventional production with conventional pest management and open-field conventional production with Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Three orchards were analyzed for each cultivation system. Arthropod monitoring was conducted monthly in winter and fortnightly in spring-summer by randomly selecting plants and counting the number of mites and insects by examining a foliole, a shoot and a flower. Additionally, a record was kept of the phytosanitary products applied, classifying them according to their toxicity, and control target. The structure of the arthropod community was similar in all the production systems, although the timing of appearance and occurrence of population peaks were different. The main pests observed were Tetranychus urticae Koch, Chaetosiphon fragaefolii (Cockerell), Aphis sp., Myzus persicae (Sulzer), Caliothrips phaseoli Hood, and Thrips tabaci Lindeman. Complexes of acarophagus mites and aphid parasitoids, and the predators Allograpta exotica (Wiedemann) and Orius insidiosus (Say) were identified as natural enemies. This study shows that both strawberry open field growth systems with IPM and on substrate, were characterized by less use of low or non-hazardous crop protection products, resulting in a higher diversity of equally frequent and abundant taxa.
