description The inoculation of crops with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria is a sustainable alternative for agriculture. The genus rhizosphere and can promote plant development through different mechanisms. Its use has been studied in different crops, which could demonstrate benefits on growth and yield. However, currently no reports have been found about the effect of the timing of application of Azospirillum sp. on the productivity or yield of lettuce, both locally and globally. In this framework, the objective was to evaluate the effect of the moment of application of a biofertilizer obtained based on Azospirillum brasilense on the yield of butterhead lettuce. For this, 4 treatments were analyzed: application of inoculant in the seedbed stage only; application of inoculant in the field stage only; application of inoculant in the seedbed and field stage; and without application of inoculant (control), and a completely randomized statistical design with four repetitions was carried out. The fresh aerial weight was recorded at the time of harvest and with this the commercial yield was determined. The data were subjected to an analysis of variance, and it was found that there were no significant differences between the treatments and the control for the variables evaluated, so it is concluded that, under the conditions in which this experiment was carried out, the moment of application of a biofertilizer obtained based on A. brasilense has no significant effect on the production and yield of butterhead lettuce.
