description The data applies to ex-post analysis of improved bean variety adoption. The two provinces of Northern and Muchinga provinces in Zambia constitute the biggest area share planted to bean in the country. A total of 402 bean growing households were selected from 67 villages across seven districts for the survey using a two-stage cluster sample selection method. All information refer to the 2012-2013 agricultural season (i.e. December 2012-April 2013). The study also contributed information on gender aspects of bean production, which was made possible by allowing data on decision-making regarding bean management, labour contribution, use of income from beans, access to extension services & credit, and group membership to be disaggregated by sex and age of household member.
