The old formulation provided 92 to 95% control of these weeds. All herbicide treatments gave only 65 to 78% control of Panicum maximum. To attain 80% control at 4 WAT, 3.0 kg a.i./ha of the new formulation was required in 2002, and 2.0 kg a.i./ha in 2003. To attain an 80% reduction in weed dry matter at harvest needed between 4.0 and 5.0 kg a.i./ha of the new formulation. Weed dry matter accounted for 60% reduction in grain yield in 2002 and 70% in 2003. Maize grain yield, similar to that obtained from the old formulation and the hoe-weeded control, was attained with 2.5 kg a.i./ha of the new formulation in both years. Therefore, the new formulation of atrazine is effective for weed control in maize at doses lower than the recommended dose for the old formulation. |
