Advances in technology development within the technical and scientific cooperation agreement signed between Colombia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) and CIAT, as well as those of the Center’s Soils Project and several national institutions co-partners in the agreement. Among the various strategies developed and applied in the region, the advances made in soil improvement are highlighted, in particular the recovery of degraded soils by building an arable layer. Other aspects related to soil improvement and management are also addressed, such as the adequate use of machinery and agricultural implements, agropastoral systems (especially the rice-pasture system), direct planting systems, and conservation and precision agriculture. |

Se revisan las estrategias empleadas para el manejo adecuado de suelos en la Altillanura de los Llanos Orientales de Colombia, con miras a establecer en esta región sistemas agropecuarios modernos, eficientes y sostenibles. Al respecto, se señalan los avances logrados en el desarrollo de tecnologías dentro del convenio de cooperación técnica y científica entre el CIAT y el Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural de Colombia (Convenio MADR– CIAT), así como del Proyecto de Suelos del CIAT y las diversas instituciones nacionales aliadas al convenio. Dentro de las diversas estrategias desarrolladas y aplicadas en la región se resaltan y describen en detalle los avances en el mejoramiento de suelos, en particular la recuperación de los suelos degradados mediante la tecnología de construcción de una capa arable.
