(CIAT) La seleccion de lineas avanzadas de frijol por eficiencia a bajos niveles de P y tolerancia a altos niveles de saturacion de Al continuo durante 1986. Una revision de datos de 8 anos de seleccion indico que la variabilidad genetica de frijol para estas 2 caracteristicas es baja. Ademas, los datos sugieren que la eficiencia y tolerancia estan determinadas por mecanismos separados. El principal grupo seleccionado estaba constituido por materiales de semilla pequena negra y roja de los habitos de crecimiento tipos II y III, adaptados a America Central y el Caribe.
