Concerning other Phaseolus species, more than 200 accessions of P. coccineus have been processed; a complete characterization of most of the P. acutifolius collection (166 accessions) is underway at 2 locations (at 800 and 1000 m.a.s.l.). De estas, el 89.0 por ciento corresponde a P. vulgaris, 7.0 por ciento a P. lunatus, 3.5 por ciento a P. coccineus, 0.6 por ciento a P. acutifolius y 0.2 por ciento a especies silvestres no cultivadas. Se realizo una intensa busqueda para obtener informacion sobre el sitio de origen del germoplasma de P. vulgaris de aquellos materiales ya multiplicados y mantenidos en el CIAT. Se compararon el pais donante y el de origen con 2 importantes caracteristicas del frijol: tamano de la semilla y habito de crecimiento. En relacion con otras especies de Phaseolus, se han procesado 200 accesiones de P. coccineus; se esta llevando a cabo una caracterizacion de la mayor parte de la coleccion de P. acutifolius (166 accesiones) en 2 localidades (a 800 y 1000 m.s.n.m.).
