Cassava is grown in association with beans, yams, sweet potato, and maize. Of the total cassava production 95 percent is consumed fresh; only 2-3 percent is processed into casabe. Rejects are given to animals. Government policies are also reviewed and research and training objectives are indicated. A national cassava course was held with CIAT's collaboration. (CIAT)

(CIAT) Se analizan la oferta y la demanda de yuca, name, batata, ocumo y papa en la Republica Dominicana; se indican las caracteristicas y la disponibilidad de tierra cultivada, las caracteristicas socioeconomicas de los agricultores, sistemas de cultivo, rendimientos, costos y limitaciones de produccion y mano de obra requerida. La yuca se cultiva en asociacion con frijol, name, batata y maiz. El 95 por ciento de la produccion total de yuca se comercializa para consumo humano fresco; solo 2-3 por ciento se procesa en cazabe. Los rechazos se suministran a los animales. Tambien se revisan las politicas gubernamentales y se indican los objetivos de investigacion y capacitacion.
