Nacional de Investigacion Agricola (Honduras) tiene como funcion coordinar, organizar y supervisar las actividades de investigacion que se realizan en las diferentes regiones. Este sistema tecnologico incluye 4 etapas: diagnostico, planeacion, experimentacion y transferencia. Las var. mejoradas que mas se estan utilizando son Zamorano, Danli 47 y Desarrural. Se recomiendan 2 deshierbas durante los primeros 30 dias de la siembra, fertilizacion con 10 y 30 kg de N y P/ha, resp. aplicados en el momento de la siembra, densidad de 200,000 y 300,000 plantas/ha para la primera y la segunda siembras del ano, resp., y control de la babosa con practicas culturales y cebos envenenados. El programa tambien evalua ecotipos provenientes de CIAT con caracteristicas agronomicas y comerciales deseables, y resistencia a las principales enfermedades del pais.
