(CIAT) Los objetivos del proyecto colaborativo entre CIAT y la Facultad de Agronomia de Gembloux (Belgica) se enfocan hacia el mejoramiento de Phaseolus vulgaris a traves de un programa de cruces amplios con otras especies de Phaseolus. Se evaluaron varias especies, principalmente del grupo P. coccineus, y se utilizaron en cruces. Adicionalmente, se evaluaron en Popayan, Colombia, varias accesiones de la subespecie polyanthus por su reaccion a la mancha foliar por Ascochyta, y dentro del proyecto de los grandes lagos, se evaluaron en Ruanda 22 accesiones de las subespecies coccineus y polyanthus por su reaccion a la mosca del frijol.
