In Bolivia, research will be conducted in the tropical areas of Santa Cruz, mainly in the marginal areas of the capital city and in regional colonization zones. In Ecuador, operations will be located in strategic sites of the Sierra and Coastal regions. In Peru, research will be conducted in the provinces of Urubamba, Calca, Anta, and Cuzco (Ucchullo, Puquin, and Ollanta districts), in the Andean Sierra. Surveys and interviews will be carried out on bean consumption patterns and culinary technology within the target groups involved. The 2-step stratified statistical sampling method will be used for the study. The sub-project will require US$3000 from PROFRIZA during 1991 and will cover a 5 mo. period (from Aug. to Dec.). Total duration will be 3 yr (from the 2nd semester 1991 to the 1st semester 1993). Once the variables are identified, actions will be drawn to encourage regional bean consumption which is expected to increase among the groups involved up to 1000, 2000, and 3000 g/capita in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd yr, resp. (AS-CIAT) La directriz mayor del sub-proyecto es introducir el frijol como ingrediente de la dieta diaria en la poblacion de escasos recursos economicos de Bolivia, Ecuador y Peru. El objetivo especifico del sub-proyecto es la de investigar las principales variables que determinan en el presente un bajo consumo de frejol en la poblacion del area andina para sentar las bases preliminares que permitan implementar programas de promocion al consumo. En Bolivia las labores de investigacion se efectuaran en la zona tropical del Depto. de Santa Cruz, principalmente en las areas marginales de la ciudad capital y en las zonas de colonizacion de ese Departamento. En el Ecuador el area de accion se ubicara en puntos estrategicos de la Sierra y Costa del Ecuador. En el Peru la investigacion se desarrollara en la Sierra Andina, en la zona de las provincias de Urubamba, Calca, Anta y Cusco (barrios de Ucchullo, Puquin, Ollanta). Se realizaran Encuestas de Aceptabilidad y Sondeos de Opinion acerca de los patrones de consumo y tecnologia culinaria de frejol en los grupos meta comprendidos. Para efectuar estos estudios se utilizara el metodo de muestreo estadistico estratificado bietapico. Para llevar a cabo estas labores durante la gestion 1991 el sub-proyecto PROMOCION AL CONSUMO DE FREJOL requiere del PROFRIZA la suma de US$3000.00 (TRES MIL DOLARES AMERICANOS) como esta senalado y refrendado en este documento. Las actividades del Sub-proyecto en la gestion 1991 tomaran 5 meses, desde agosto a diciembre de 1991. La duracion total del sub-proyecto sera de 3 anos (desde 2do. semestre de 1991 al 1er. semestre de 1993). Con las variables identificadas se disenaran lineas de accion para incentivar el consumo regional de frejol y emprender la 2da. etapa del Sub-proyecto. Se cuantificara el consumo de frejol el cual se espera que en los grupos involucrados se incremente, per capita, en 1000 gr. el 1er. ano, 2000 gr. el 2do. ano y en 3000 gr. el 3er ano.
