Among the main production constraints are the irregular rainfall patterns, the lack of marketing studies, and inadequate transfer of technology. The Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agropecuarias modified the technology recommended by CIAT, adapting it to Ecuadorian conditions; 9 genotypes have been introduced and are currently adapted under greenhouse conditions; transfer to the field is pending. Regional trials have been carried out in Quevedo, Santo Domingo, Napo, and Loja with introduced var. and hybrids and local material. The infrastructure for international germplasm exchange is still inadequate. Future plans include the collection of local material and assessment of characteristics as well as the improvement of major cassava production and utilization systems in Manabi Province. (CIAT) |

(CIAT) Se describen diferentes aspectos del cultivo de la yuca en Ecuador, a saber: regiones agroclimaticas, clima, suelos, areas de produccion, sistemas de produccion, principales var. en zonas productoras y usos. Entre las principales limitaciones a la produccion identificadas estan la precipitacion irregular, la falta de estudios de mercadeo y la inadecuada transferencia de tecnologia. El Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agropecuarias modifico la tecnologia recomendada por CIAT a condiciones ecuatorianas; se han introducido 9 genotipos, actualmente adaptados a condiciones de invernadero; esta pendiente la transferencia al campo. Se han realizado pruebas regionales en Quevedo, Santo Domingo, Napo y Loja con var. e hibridos introducidos y material local. La estructura para intercambio internacional de germoplasma es aun deficiente. Entre los planes futuros estan la coleccion de material local y evaluacion de sus caracteristicas y el mejoramiento de los principales sistemas de produccion y utilizacion de la yuca en la Provincia de Manabi.
