La yuca, uno de los primeros cultivos de exportacion, se establecio en la decada de 1850. Malaysia posee una economia con exceso de tierras y escasez de mano de obra; por tanto, como la yuca se producia en sistemas de cultivo migratorio, se creo la imagen de que la yuca es un cultivo que agota el suelo.
