The catalog includes 785 new accessions of P. coccineus, P. polyanthus, and related species that have multiplied in CIAT. Due to the allogamous character of the species, a methodology was established that allows for preserving the variability within each accession, and at the same time, prevents contamination with other accessions. Multiplication is achieved in mesh houses in Popayan, and in the field, with racemes protected by paper bags, in Rionegro. In both cases, polinization is manual, which in turn prevents obtaining a great no. of seeds/plant. The catalog is divided into 3 main sections: (a) a brief description of the collection, (b) descriptors (according to the list published by the International Board for Plant Genetic Resources with some modifications), and (c) data on passport, collection, caracterization, and evaluation. (CIAT) Dentro del sistema de Centros Internacionales de Investigacion, CIAT tiene la responsabilidad mundial de la recoleccion y conservacion de germoplasma de frijol del genero Phaseolus (P. vulgaris, P. acutifolius, P. lunatus, P. coccineus y P. polyanthus). El catalogo incluye 785 nuevas accesiones de P. coccineus, P. polyanthus y especies relacionadas que se han incrementado en CIAT. Debido al caracter alogamo de las especies, se establecio una metodologia que permite la conservacion de la variabilidad dentro de cada accesion y al mismo tiempo evita las contaminaciones de otras accesiones. La multiplicacion se realiza en casas de malla en Popayan y en el campo con racimos protegidos por bolsas de papel en Rionegro. La polinizacion es manual en ambos casos, lo que no permite obtener un gran no. de semillas/planta. El catalogo se divide en 3 secciones principales: a) breve descripcion de la coleccion, b) descriptores (segun el listado publicado por International Board for Plant Genetic Resources con algunas modificaciones) y c) datos de pasaporte, recoleccion, caracterizacion y evaluacion.
