The objective of this unit is to present some of the results of research conducted by the physiology Section of CIATs Cassava Program. First the LAI and the morphological components of the same (leaf size, life and no./unit area) are studied; then growth rate or rate of DM accumulation and dependence on leaf area are analyzed. Based on a mathematical model for the development of a cassava plant, it is possible to predict the effects on yield of variations in one or more of its components, thus determining what could be considered as an ideal plant type. (CIAT) Esta unidad audiotutorial (cinta magnetofonica, guion, 76 transparencias a color, guia de estudio, auto-evaluacion), preparada por la Unidad de Comunicaciones del CIAT, esta disponible para usarla en sincronizacion automatica o manual por medio de un proyector de transparencias o una grabadora de cassettes. Cada unidad esta disponible en la Oficina de Distribucion a un costo de US$ 50; en el Centro de Informacion sobre Yuca solamente pueden solicitarse fotocopias de la guia de estudio. El objetivo de esta unidad es presentar parte de los resultados de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo por la Seccion de Fisiologia del Programa de Yuca del CIAT. En primer lugar, se estudia el IAF y los factores morfologicos que lo determinan (tamano, vida y no. de hojas/unidad de area); tambien se analiza la tasa de crecimiento o tasa de acumulacion de MS y dependencia del area foliar. Basandose en un modelo matematico del desarrollo de la planta de yuca, es posible predecir los efectos que produce en el rendimiento, la variacion de uno o de varios de sus componentes, y por lo tanto, establecer lo que podria considerarse como el tipo ideal de planta de yuca.
