description The Central American Adaptation Nursery (VIDAC 1988), comprising the best black- and red-seeded lines evaluated in the 1987 VIDAC, was established to identify well-adapted bean genotypes and obtain information on their degree of resistance to different crop problems. Outstanding (1) black-seeded materials, or black VIDAC, are described in terms of wt. of 100 seeds, earliness (expressed as days to flowering), and reaction to main diseases of the region caused by Xanthomonas phaseoli, Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, Tanathephorus cucumeris, and BGMV. Best (2) red- seeded genotypes are described as to wt. of 100 seeds, earliness, resistance to Uromyces phaseoli var. appendiculatus, C. lindemuthianum, X. phaseoli, and BGMV, and pod damage due to pod weevil, Apion godmani, attacks.
