In 1979 the best F7 and F8 lines were widely tested in NE, SE and S. coastal Guatemala on the basis of 50 regional trials, 3 new bean BGMV-tolerant var. were evaluated: (1) ICTA-Quetzal (Porrillo Sintifico x ICA Pijao), highly tolerant to BGMV, wide adaptation, intermediate maturity, indeterminate growth habit, bush type; (2) ICTA-Jutiapin (ICA Pijao x Turrialba-1) tolerant to BGMV, adaptable to regions at 400-1200 m art., intermediate maturity, indeterminate growth habit, bush type; and (3) ICTA-Tamazulapa (ICA Pijao x Turrialba-1) moderately tolerant to BGMV, wide adaptation, intermediate maturity, indeterminate growth habit, bush type with vines.
